Children Dying

It’s been a hard couple of weeks for me. Trying to process the latest in a long line of school massacres has been so difficult, I just crawled into my emotional hole and hermited for awhile. I know that many others did the same. What make it harder for me this year is that in the fall my grandchild will be starting kindergarten and it scares me shitless to think that she is going to have to go through shooter drills and learn how to hopefully stay safe when there are sounds of gunshots and dying children all around her. My mind wouldn’t be able to function during an active shooter situation so how will a 4 year old be able to?

I don’t live in the USA anymore (Portugal for the win!) but I still have the right to vote. And believe you me, I will be voting for any one that stands against military grade guns for anyone and everyone. No one needs an AR-15 that is not in the military, and even then not at home. And don’t come at me with the target practice or hunting uses. If the only way you can hit a target — paper or animal — is with an AR-15, then you don’t need to be doing either. I have shot guns before thanks to an ex that enjoyed the sport but even the paper target was safe from me. I understand how it feels to hold and act with that kind of life or death power in your hands. I understand those that need a gun for protection for their farms and businesses; for hunting; for proof of their virility. But not a machine that can kill so many in such a small window of time. What’s next? Allowing people to have bazookas and tanks and whatever else they decide they need to have to defend their home?

The second amendment starts with the phrase “A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free State . . .” Last I checked that is basically what the National Guard is and what their duties are. They are a State-based military force so if they are in place, then there is no need for any other kind of militia. Especially not those that want to meet in secret, carry military grade weapons in public, try to overthrow our democracy (I’m looking at you Proud Boys), or even just shoot someone they decide is behaving suspiciously. I know that is coming.

And shut the f**k up about good people with guns can defeat bad people with guns. Excuse me, but the “good people with guns” stood on site for 78 MINUTES listening to children being killed and did absolutely NOTHING! Except of course arrest the ones who tried to get in to rescue the children.

America is the ONLY country in the world that has this “problem.” It seems the American legislature is more fond of the kickbacks from gun companies, the NRA, and insurance companies than they are of actual people. Eventually there won’t be anyone around to vote (or pay kickbacks) because they will all have been shot by idiots with AR-15’s.

You know, I’m beginning to think there needs to be a wall around the US of A. Not to keep “undesirables” out, but to keep those gun crazies in.
